Calls for unprecedented legal action against former President Barack Obama are intensifying in Washington, D.C., following a fiery demand by retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, who has urged federal authorities to raid Obama’s upscale Kalorama residence in the heart of the capital.
Flynn, a former National Security Adviser and longtime ally of President Donald Trump, made the bombshell statement during a podcast interview with conservative host Benny Johnson, in which he accused Obama of orchestrating a “seditious conspiracy” aimed at derailing Trump’s presidency from the outset.
“This needs to be treated with the same seriousness as the Mar-A-Lago raid, and perhaps even more so,” Flynn said. “Just as they raided President Trump’s home on fabricated grounds, the Department of Justice must now consider similar actions against Barack Obama. There’s more than enough evidence from what Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has released. There is no excuse not to act.”
Flynn’s remarks came days after Gabbard, serving as the current Director of National Intelligence under President Trump, made headlines with a sweeping release of classified documents she claims expose a coordinated effort by top Obama-era officials to manipulate intelligence, mislead the public, and sabotage Trump’s transition into office following his 2016 victory over Hillary Clinton.
Gabbard described the operation as a “years-long coup” and pledged that even more explosive material is scheduled for release in the coming days.
According to Gabbard, whistleblowers are now coming forward, providing additional information on what she characterizes as a conspiracy of historic proportions involving intelligence operatives, Democratic leadership, and senior White House officials under Obama.
“This wasn’t just a few bad actors,” she said. “This was a networked effort across the highest levels of government, and the American people deserve justice.”
Flynn, speaking with conviction and urgency, echoed Gabbard’s assessment and said a lack of legal action would send a dangerous message to the American public. “We cannot have a two-tiered justice system,” he warned.
“If the DOJ and FBI have the authority to raid the private residence of a sitting president over disputed documents, they absolutely have the duty to investigate the individuals who weaponized intelligence to try and undo an election result. Obama’s mansion must be searched. The evidence trail could be in that house.”
The general also suggested that Obama continues to play a behind-the-scenes role in U.S. politics, possibly even directing policy from his Washington residence. “The American people were told he stepped back. But from everything I’ve seen and heard from insiders, he has continued pulling the strings. What else are they hiding in Kalorama?” Flynn asked rhetorically.
Members of Congress have also begun to demand concrete legal consequences. Appearing on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) laid out specific charges that could be applied to Obama-era officials involved in the alleged conspiracy.
“Lying under oath, publishing and circulating a knowingly false intelligence report—these are clear violations of 18 U.S. Code 1001,” Luna said. “There needs to be criminal prosecution. There need to be arrests.”
Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), who recently announced his campaign to run for Florida governor in 2026, agreed during the same broadcast. “This is not just about one man.
This is about the preservation of the presidency and our republic. If people at the highest levels of our government lied, misused their authority, and tried to subvert a sitting president, then yes, they need to go to jail.”
The renewed focus on Obama follows weeks of escalating pressure from Gabbard’s office, which began its declassification push with a series of documents allegedly proving that the Obama administration not only knew that Russia was unlikely to affect the outcome of the 2016 election through cyber means but still pursued public messaging to the contrary.
One internal memo, dated before Trump’s inauguration, indicates that senior intelligence officials agreed Russian interference had no material impact on vote tallies or voter data. Despite this consensus, the narrative of Russian collusion dominated headlines throughout Trump’s first term.
“This is a direct betrayal of the American people,” Gabbard said during her Sunday interview. “These were calculated lies. They weren’t accidental misjudgments. They were aimed at destroying the legitimacy of an incoming administration.”
Gabbard has criticized both Special Counsels Robert Mueller and John Durham for failing to uncover the extent of the misconduct. “How did they miss this?” she asked. “How did they fail to connect the dots? These documents were there. The whistleblowers are real. There was either stunning incompetence—or deliberate avoidance.”
She continued: “I’ve been in this role as Director of National Intelligence for just six months. In that short time, we’ve uncovered what multiple years of investigations failed to expose. There is no rational explanation for that unless there was a cover-up.”
Mueller’s investigation, which concluded in 2019, found no evidence that Trump colluded with Russia but stopped short of fully exonerating him on charges of obstruction.
Durham’s more recent probe, while revealing significant irregularities and confirming the lack of verification behind the Steele Dossier, resulted in only a single guilty plea—from FBI attorney Kevin Clinesmith, who altered a FISA application targeting Trump campaign adviser Carter Page. Clinesmith received probation and community service.
That leniency has been sharply criticized by Gabbard and Trump allies. “That wasn’t justice. That was political theater,” Gabbard said. “If a rank-and-file American citizen had committed the same crime, they would be in federal prison.”
Many Republicans now see Gabbard’s investigation as the final opportunity to hold the architects of the Russiagate operation accountable. “This is no longer just about exposing lies,” Rep. Luna said.
“This is about restoring faith in our democratic institutions. If we let this go, we are saying it’s okay for government insiders to take down presidents they don’t like.”
Flynn also warned that further inaction could erode public trust to a dangerous degree. “We are standing on the edge of a cliff,” he said. “The American people won’t stand for this forever. They want to see law and order. They want to see that nobody is above the law—not even a former president.”
Calls are growing louder for the Department of Justice to appoint a special prosecutor to handle the case independently. Gabbard said her office is prepared to deliver everything they’ve uncovered—documents, memos, and whistleblower testimony—to DOJ leadership.
“We are not withholding anything. We are not redacting to protect reputations. This is about truth. This is about accountability.”
Despite the mounting pressure, Democrats and many in the mainstream media have dismissed the revelations as politically motivated. A statement from Obama’s office condemned the claims as “outrageous, unsubstantiated, and dangerous.”
A spokesperson added, “There is nothing in these documents that undermines the consensus view that Russia worked to influence the 2016 election. What is being said now is part of a calculated distraction.”
Gabbard has responded by accusing the media and political elites of aiding the cover-up. “They knew. And instead of reporting the truth, they became mouthpieces for the people orchestrating the deception,” she said.
As new disclosures are expected later this week, the debate in Washington is reaching a boiling point. Trump himself has praised both Flynn and Gabbard for their “courage and patriotism,” calling the latest revelations “the biggest political scandal in American history.”
“If what Tulsi says is true, and I believe it is,” Trump said, “then we’re talking about treason at the highest levels. And I don’t say that lightly.”
As the calls grow louder for federal raids, subpoenas, and indictments, all eyes are now on Attorney General Sidney Powell and the Department of Justice. Will they act on the information presented? Will they take the unprecedented step of investigating and potentially prosecuting a former president?
Flynn believes the time is now. “We either do this, or we surrender our republic. There is no middle ground anymore.”
Gabbard’s next set of documents may determine how far this story goes—and whether the rule of law will truly apply to all, no matter how high their office once was.
