The Open Society Foundations (OSF), founded by billionaire George Soros, is facing a new investigation into its financial ties with organizations linked to domestic terrorism and violent extremist groups.

The inquiry comes as revelations surface regarding OSF’s alleged funding of various entities that have been placed on federal terrorist watch lists.

According to a report by the Capital Research Center (CRC), Soros’s philanthropic network has directed at least $80 million since 2016 to groups that have been connected to violent extremism and terroristic activities, raising serious concerns about the nature of the foundation's operations and the impact of its donations.

The findings of the CRC report have led to calls for increased scrutiny from both Congress and federal investigators. While Soros’s Open Society Foundations has long been seen as a progressive force advocating for democratic values, transparency, and human rights, the new revelations about its support for groups linked to domestic and international terrorism could have serious repercussions.

The allegations are particularly concerning given the amount of funding involved, with some of the groups in question having been flagged by the FBI for their involvement in activities that include property destruction, economic disruption, and even terrorist acts.

The investigation suggests that Soros’s Open Society Foundation, now run by his son Alexander Soros, has funded groups whose activities seem to contradict the very principles of peace, liberty, and justice that the foundation claims to champion.

According to the CRC, over $23 million of the $80 million total went to seven U.S.-based organizations that have been identified by the FBI as potentially engaging in terrorism-related activities, including acts of vandalism, civil unrest, and sabotage.

These organizations, according to the CRC report, have been involved in violent clashes and protests that have sometimes escalated into more dangerous confrontations.

Among the groups highlighted in the investigation are the Center for Third World Organizing (CTWO), a left-wing activist group that has partnered with the militant Ruckus Society.

This group has been accused of training activists in violent tactics, including property destruction and sabotage, particularly in the wake of the George Floyd riots in 2020.

These trainings, according to the CRC, have further entrenched the links between activist groups funded by Soros and militant organizations. The Ruckus Society, known for its focus on anarchist and radical political activism, has trained numerous individuals who have gone on to participate in violent demonstrations across the U.S., leading to widespread destruction and criminal charges.

The report also points to the Sunrise Movement, another organization funded by the Open Society Foundations. The Sunrise Movement, which focuses on climate change activism, has been linked to the controversial “Stop Cop City” movement.

This campaign, led by Antifa-affiliated activists, has led to over 40 arrests and terrorism-related charges against activists, as well as more than 60 federal racketeering indictments.

The group's efforts to disrupt police training in Atlanta have raised alarms about the extent to which such organizations are willing to go in the pursuit of their political objectives, including the use of violence and illegal tactics to advance their cause.

One of the most disturbing revelations in the CRC report is the financial support given to the Movement for Black Lives (MBL), which received $18 million in funding from Soros’s foundation.

MBL has publicly supported and endorsed various violent movements, including Hamas’s actions during the October 7, 2023 attacks that killed 1,400 Israeli nationals.

MBL’s involvement with extremist factions, and its public support for groups that engage in terrorism, has placed it at the center of the debate about the extent to which philanthropic organizations may be inadvertently or intentionally supporting violent ideologies.

Additionally, the MBL has trained activists in protest tactics, such as creating fake identification, staging blockades, and other forms of civil disobedience that, according to critics, have crossed the line into illegal and potentially violent actions.

The report also highlights a troubling connection between Soros’s philanthropic efforts and foreign terrorist organizations. Open Society Foundation has provided significant funding to Al-Haq, a Palestinian organization based in the West Bank.

Al-Haq has long been linked to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a designated terrorist group by both the U.S. and the EU. The PFLP is responsible for numerous acts of violence and has been involved in a campaign of terror targeting both Israeli civilians and soldiers.

In September 2025, the U.S. government sanctioned the PFLP for its role in targeting Israeli citizens and contributing to destabilizing efforts in the region.

Al-Haq, which has received over $2.3 million from OSF, has been accused of providing material support to the PFLP, further complicating Soros’s foundation’s reputation.

The CRC report documents a total of 54 organizations that it claims have been linked to terrorist activities, whether through direct action, endorsement, or financial support.

The report concludes that the Open Society Foundation’s contributions have blurred the lines between philanthropic work and complicity in violent uprisings.

Trump links Soros to protest funding, vows RICO investigation into billionaire's actions

These findings have raised urgent questions about whether Soros’s foundation and its grantees can continue to operate with tax-exempt status while allegedly fueling criminal activity both at home and abroad.

The issue of philanthropy and its potential links to violence is one that has sparked intense debate in recent years, particularly as political activism has become more polarized.

Critics of Soros’s foundation argue that the massive amounts of funding directed toward radical groups are fueling divisions within American society and contributing to the rise of violent extremism.

Proponents of Soros, on the other hand, maintain that the foundation's efforts are aimed at promoting social justice, fighting inequality, and supporting the rights of marginalized communities.

In response to the allegations, President Donald Trump has vowed to investigate Soros’s financial dealings, suggesting that the billionaire philanthropist could be facing legal consequences under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.

"We’re going to look into Soros because I think it’s a RICO case against him and other people," Trump said in a recent interview with Fox News. RICO laws, which are typically used to target organized crime syndicates, could potentially be used to investigate Soros’s foundation and its connections to groups accused of violent activities.

The Open Society Foundations has denied the allegations and rejected claims that it supports violent protests. In previous statements, the organization has strongly refuted any links to terrorism or violent extremism, calling such accusations "outrageous."

According to the foundation, it remains committed to supporting peaceful advocacy for human rights, justice, and democracy. It has argued that the evidence presented by the CRC is either inaccurate or misleading, and that the groups it funds are not involved in illegal activities.

Despite these denials, the CRC’s report has raised significant concerns about the role of philanthropy in funding groups that glorify violence and advocate for the destruction of social order.

As the investigation unfolds, both the public and policymakers are closely watching how the legal and political landscape will shift in response to these revelations.

The future of Soros’s Open Society Foundations, and its ability to continue operating tax-exempt, may depend on the outcome of this investigation. If the evidence presented by the CRC is substantiated, it could have wide-reaching consequences for the foundation and the broader philanthropic community.

As the investigation progresses, it is likely that the spotlight will continue to shine on Soros’s charitable giving and the groups that benefit from it, forcing a reevaluation of the role of philanthropy in supporting causes that, in some cases, may cross the line into violence and extremism.

For now, the investigation into George Soros’s Open Society Foundations continues, and the public is left to wonder whether one of the world’s most prominent philanthropists will face legal consequences for his support of groups with ties to terrorism.

The outcome of this investigation will likely have far-reaching implications not only for Soros’s legacy but also for the future of philanthropy and its role in shaping political movements around the world.
